Asheville Gem Mine

This is such an amazing place. I took my daughter here who is really into geology and she did the mining bucket. The staff were so immensely helpful and kind. They kept interacting and helping the kids not only know which stone they had but explained how to find it and where it came from. It was a very educational and fun experience! Definitely going back!

The gem mining was so much fun and so worth it! Chelsea helped us identify our gems we found and even helped us crack open a geode we found in our bucket! The experience was great and I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting downtown Asheville if you have time!

What a great little shop! My 10 year old son is obsessed with all things rocks, gems and fossils, so when he saw this store, we had to go inside. It did not disappoint. He had such a great time gem mining and came out with so many cool treasures. The gentleman that was working today was super friendly and helpful and wanted to share so much knowledge with my son. It was an amazing experience all around, we will definitely be back next time we’re in Asheville!

Sam, Reece, and the rest of the gang at the Asheville Gem Mine are truly Asheville’s hidden… well, gems. My two sons love panning for gemstones in the in-store sluice and cracking geodes. The staff are incredibly kind and patient with the kids and we even hosted our 5 year olds birthday party at the store. The staff are also incredibly talented and knowledgeable rockhounds. They will tell you and your children all about the geological history of the gems and fossils they find. The staff can even cut and polish the gemstones you find with their own in-store lapidary machine. They have turned local moonstone we have found into beautiful cabochons. Cannot recommend this store enough for parents or rock enthusiasts of any age.

Fantastic!!! Took my 6 year old Grandson and he mined for gems. Reese was awesome in explaining to him what he discovered!!! Reese was very kind and knowledgeable about rocks, gems, crystals and fossils. We will definitely go back soon!!!

A very cool place. They have a very large collection of gem, mineral, fossils, and artifact. Some are made into jewelry, and displays, some are polished, and some are in their raw form. The day I visited Chelsea was the associate. She is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. She answered all my questions with enthusiasm. It is obvious that she loves being there. If you are in the area, stop by say hello, and check out the in store gem mining. You get a bunch of dirt, and a sieve. Pour the dirt in, submerge it then the running water. There is a high likelihood of finding a gem, or mineral. Have fun.

Came in today to buy a rock tumbler from Chelsea, I believe, don't quote me on that. But anyway I ended up buying a couple coins along with the tumbler. They have a lot of cool stuff here. Super chill kind vibes 🙏. It was cool too bc I was able to show her some things I found while walking in the woods. Hopefully her boss, the owner, will add to the already theories on what this item could be. Thanks for being awesome & pet friendly 🤝

Just went today with my 6 and 4 yo, they had a BLAST! We bought one of the large buckets to share and there were a lot of gems. The person working was also so friendly and knowledgeable. If you’re looking for something fun to do, totally recommend. 😊
